Tim Tszyu vs Dennis Hogan to fight in Newcastle on March 31 - Tszyu vs Hogan

Tszyu vs Hogan Fight Live Streaming, Boxing: Tim Tszyu vs Dennis Hogan Fight in NSW on Wed 31 Mar 2021 . AUS Boxing Tszyu-Hogan fight Live online,

Aussie boxing is heading back to normal, with another big-name fight about to get underway. Rising star Tim Tszyu (17-0) – son of legendary boxer Kostya Tszyu – looks to take on Brisbane-based fighter Dennis Hogan (28-3-1) in what’s been dubbed the ‘Steel City Showdown’.

Fighting in a world title eliminator – which will clear the winner to fight WBO super-welterweight champion Brian Castano – the bout will take place on March 31, 2021, at the Newcastle Entertainment Centre.

Rising Australian boxing star Tim Tszyu takes on Ireland’s three-time world title challenger Dennis Hogan in a virtual world title eliminator on Wednesday, March 31. The son of Kostya Tszyu, the Russian who became an Australian citizen and an Aussie boxing icon, Tim Tszyu has some very big shoes to fill, but he’s unbeaten in 17 fights and ranked in the world’s top-3 by the IBF and WBO.

Dennis Hogan is a skillful boxer and an extremely tough customer. In 2019 he lost a controversial majority decision to the heavy handed Jaime Munguia in a WBO light middleweight title fight, and later that year Hogan jumped up to middleweight and challenged WBC champion Jermall Charlo at short notice, lasting into the seventh against one of boxing’s most devastating punchers.

This could be the toughest test of Tim Tszyu’s career thus far, but one he will pass with flying colors. I’m looking at Tszyu to dominate Hogan from the opening bell, staying in the pocket and throwing consistently hard shots from all angles to force a stoppage by the fifth round.

26-year old Tim Tszyu (17-0-0, 13 KOs) is the son of two-time junior welterweight champion Kostya Tszyu. Kostya Tszyu was a highly rated Russian amateur who chose to make Australia his home base when he turned professional. Revered for his explosive punching power, Tszyu would go on to become one of the greatest ever 140-pounders, along with Julio Cesar Chavez and Ricky Hatton. Hogan versus Tszyu free stream

The new Tszyu certainly has star quality, and ring announcers have taken to calling him “our next superstar.” A pro since 2016, Tszyu has looked increasingly impressive in his fights, answering the challenges brought about by tougher opposition.

In 2019, Tszyu took apart the one-time highly rated Denton Vassell of the UK in two rounds. He followed that up with a ten round decision over fellow Australian prospect Dwight Ritchie, and last August Tszyu proved he was for real, stopping former WBO welterweight champion Jeff Horn in eight one-sided rounds.

At 5’9” and 154 lbs, Tim Tszyu is two inches taller and two weight classes heavier than his father. While Tszyu doesn’t have the explosive hitting power his dad had, he hits pretty hard nevertheless. In his most recent outing in December, Tszyu knocked out New Zealander Bowyn Morgan in the first round, finishing Morgan off with a booming overhand right.

36-year-old Dennis Hogan (28-3-1, 7 KOs) had an extensive amateur career of more than 150 bouts before turning professional in 2011, basing himself in Australia.

In 2015, after going unbeaten in his first twenty-three fights (22-0-1), Hogan challenged Germany’s Jack Culcay for the WBA interim super welterweight title but lost a unanimous decision. Hogan stayed busy and in 2019, landed another title shot, this time against WBO light middleweight champion, the fearsome 22-year-old Mexican Jaime Munguia.

The 6’ tall, hard-hitting Munguia was expected to make short work of the ageing, 5’8” Hogan, but instead the Irishman gave the champion the fight of his life. Munguia himself later said that coming out for the twelfth he believed the fight was probably even, so he went all out to win the final round, ultimately securing the win. However, many at ringside and watching on television believed that Hogan had been robbed.

Eight months later, Hogan was given a surprise crack at the WBC middleweight title held by another dangerous puncher in Jermall Charlo. Once again, Hogan was 4” shorter than the 6’ tall Charlo and he struggled to get past his opponent’s long left jab and powerful straight right, and was eventually TKO’d in the seventh round. That was Hogan's most recent outing.

Boxing 2021: Dennis Hogan believes raging favourite Tim Tszyu on a blockbuster fight

Watch Tim Tszyu v Dennis Hogan only on Main Event, available on Foxtel on Wednesday 31 March at 7pm AEDT.

Those are the words that regularly pop up as text-message torrents on Dennis Hogan’s phone and the hungry ‘Hurricane’ has vowed to bring the dire warning to life by handing Tszyu the biggest belting of his career.

Hogan is perplexed, almost offended, at being installed by bookmakers as a $5.20 outsider to consign raging $1.14 favourite Tszyu (17-0, 13 KO) to his first defeat in 18 professional fights in Newcastle on March 31.

Even allowing for Tszyu’s emphatic recent disposals of Jeff Horn and Kiwi Bowyn Morgan, Hogan is a dangerous customer.

Tszyu vs Hogan

The Brisbane-based Irishman (28-3-1, 7KO) has amassed an impressive record and still believes he was robbed of a world title in his controversial majority-decision loss to Jamie Munguia in his Mexican heartbreak in April 2019.

Since then, Hogan showed the guts to step up in weight against middleweight mauler Jermall Charlo (31-0). Tszyu vs Hogan Live Fight

While he was dropped in the seventh round by the WBC king, Hogan’s two consecutive world-title losses have taught the 36-year-old that Tszyu will bring nothing he hasn’t seen before in their super-welterweight showdown.

“Do I feel I can win? C’mon mate, I’m winning this fight. There will be no other outcome,” Hogan said.

“There is a thing called the ‘hype train’ in Australia and Tim is on the hype train.

“I have people of importance in the boxing world in America messaging me saying Tim has made a big mistake.

“The bookies have me as a major outsider, but the WBC have me ranked above Tim (10th versus 11th) because they aren’t in the bubble on the hype train.

“It bewilders me a little bit that people think Tim is the favourite, but on fight night I will get the job done and then I will hear the excuses from the critics who are writing me off.

“I am ready to make Tim Tszyu look average and put myself back in the picture for a world title.”

Hogan is under no illusions about the gravity of this fight. For all his heart and desire, Hogan has gone 820 days without a victory, having last triumphed in December 2018 with a 12-round unanimous decision over Jamie Weetch.

A third consecutive defeat against Tszyu would leave his world-title hopes in tatters, but Hogan is steeled by his Munguia masterclass.

“I have fought for world titles and good judges know I beat Munguia,” he said.

“I am a world champion in my mind and one day it will be a reality.

“Can anyone say Tim Tszyu is as good as Munguia ... and I beat him.

“If you look at our styles, Tim is absolutely tailor-made for me.

“I believe Tim can be world-class in a few years but he is meeting me at the wrong time. Tszyu v Hogan Live

“There are chinks in Tim’s armour and I will exploit them.

“I am so hungry for this and that’s the difference. Deep down, Tim knows how tough this fight is ... I am going to hurt him.”
